We get quite a few messages each year from people concerned they have a bee hive or swarm. Many don’t pan out to be actual honeybees, but typically a paper wasp. We often recommend a can of raid or a professional exterminator in those cases.
Every once in awhile, like this past weekend, we get the real deal. We were recently called by a family friend who had a swarm on their mailbox. They were a little worried their mailman might have some trouble delivering their mail with a bunch of bees hanging all over it.
Mark set off to remove the swarm early Saturday morning. You can check out our Facebook page for a video of him removing the swarm. He used a brush to gently sweep the bees down into one of our hive boxes. He used an entrance reducer and a small window screening to keep the bees in the hive while he drove them to their new location.
We were happy to help this family get their mail again and provide a safe alternative to removing these bees rather than someone destroying them.
